Emerging International Partnerships
Power Users of Technology
With a group of international advisors, we have begun to learn about youth who use technology intensively and creatively as an integrated part of their lives. Power users are challenging our assumptions about how young people learn, communicate, and interact with the world, and are helping us understand the learning needs of this global digital generation. Research will inform policy and practice related to the development of human capital, learning systems, and sustainable economic development.
Inter-American Education Forum
The Inter-American Forum on the role of education in preventing gender-based violence, co-sponsored by the Gender, Diversities, and Technology Institute and the Centro de Investigación en Estudios de la Mujer at the University of Costa Rica, brought together practitioners and researchers from 10 countries across the Americas to share perspectives on and approaches to violence education and prevention. Results included a Spanish-English online discussion forum that enabled participants to continue the work, as well as a series of papers and proceedings. Democratic Republic of the Congo: Instructional Strategies and Telecentre Initiative
As part of our effort to harness technology to promote education in developing countries, YouthLearn partners with EDC’s International Education Systems to develop training and curriculum for teachers in two remote communities in the Democratic Republic of Congo. YouthLearn is working on the ground and virtually to guide local educators in the development of technology-enhanced curriculum and project-based learning.
Macedonia ICT for Education and Workforce Learning Development (EWorLD)
In Macedonia, we are assisting policymakers in strengthening public-private partnerships in support of ICT for development; building the capacity of educators to use technology as a tool for learning, working, and participating in civil society; developing a national e-school certification program; and developing vocational centers of excellence where students develop ICT skill within the context of regional economic clusters.
Youth Employment Summit (YES), Alexandria, Egypt
The publication, “Work and Life Literacy: A New Paradigm for Education in the 21st Century,” was presented at the summit. It proposes basic work and life literacy standards that support the development of human capital in an era of globalization. Our vision is to create societies in which all people develop and apply competencies to learn, work, and live successfully and productively.
