Bethany Carlson

Research Associate

Bethany Carlson works with the Gender, Diversities, and Technology Institute (GDI). She has conducted focus groups with middle school students about their career aspirations and ideas, interviewed teachers about using the web in classrooms, and analyzed on-line discourse for gender-related patterns. When Bethany first came to EDC, she wrote engineering and career education curriculum for high school students. Prior to that, she worked in an urban middle school on the West Coast, supporting the reform efforts of the math and science teachers. Since her bachelor’s degree is in mechanical engineering, she is particularly interested in the factors leading young people to become fascinated or disenchanted with science and technology. In her spare time, she volunteers for Destination Imagination and Habitat for Humanity.
