Joyce Malyn-Smith

Strategic Director

Currently, Dr. Malyn-Smith plays key roles in several national IT projects. She is the Principal Investigator on three National Science Foundation projects, the ITEST (Information Technology Experiences for Students and Teachers) Learning Resource Center and IT Across Careers (I and II). Previously, Dr. Malyn-Smith served as Project Director for the Information Technology Career Cluster Initiative funded by DOE’s Office of Vocational and Adult Education to develop and pilot a framework for education programs leading to "IT producer" careers. In partnership with ITAA (Information Technology Association of America), Dr. Malyn-Smith lead EDC's activities for the Techforce Initiative funded to highlight and expand IT employer involvement in school-to-work nationally. Dr. Malyn-Smith developed and produced several seminal products including the IT Pathway/Pipeline Model: Rethinking Technology Learning in Schools and has co-authored skill standard implementation guides, including Making Skill Standards Work (National Skill Standards Board/DOL). Dr. Malyn-Smith received her BA from Universidad Interamericana in Hato Rey, Puerto Rico, her M.Ed. from Boston State Teachers College and her Ed.D. from Boston University.
